Options Unlimited - Shepherdsville, kentucky

OPTIONS UNLIMITED
205 Castlerock Drive
Shepherdsville, Kentucky
MISSION

The Shepherdsville office has a two-fold mission:

They work with the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) to help adults with physical and mental disabilities find employment. They look at the individual's interests and offer job coaching, to match them with local employers and find a good fit for the client.

They operate an adult (over 21) Day Program for those with more severe disabilities. This runs from 9-3, M-F and they work with clients on their goals in life skills — hygiene, housekeeping, cooking, social skills, etc.

There is another office in downtown Louisville that focuses on clients who are deaf or hard-of-hearing and another office in Shelbyville that works with the OVR.

The clients come from Bullitt, Jefferson, Spencer, Henry, and Oldham counties. The numbers vary day-to-day, but there are 20-25 clients in the Day Program in any given week. They hope the numbers will increase as Covid restrictions are eased. The OVR program has 200-300 clients in employment training in Metro Louisville.

Options Unlimited also has programs in Jefferson, Bullitt , and Spencer County High Schools to teach students with disabilities some job interviewing skills and let them know the resources that are available to them. Once the students graduate they can switch over to the OVR programs.

NEEDS

The Day Program can use board games, arts and crafts supplies, (coloring books, bottles of acrylic paints, paint brushes, construction paper, pipe cleaners, pony beads, stryofoam bowls for sorting.) Puzzles (100 pieces or less), cube puzzles, search and find. Paper towels and hand wipes. Gift cards and cash can help purchase large items (computers) and with items that come up on an as-needed basis. Hygiene gift-sets for men and women would be helpful in teaching personal hygiene.
