2027 CHARITY ~ STITCH
Every year Quilters' Day Out chooses a charity to support and give back to.
This year we have chosen to collect sewing supplies and raise funds for STITCH.
STITCH is a mission program of Highland Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, in collaboration with Kentucky Refugee Ministries.
Begun in 2011, STITCH not only teaches refugee women how to sew, but also provides them with a donated sewing machine, fabric, supplies, and an outlet to sell their creations and earn an income for their family.
Students come from Afghanistan, Nepal, Congo, Cuba, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, and other countries, many having spent years in refugee camps before arriving in Louisville.
Sewing is the springboard for practical skills, conversation, support, and connections among cultures.
The students are excited to come to class.
Sewing sessions provide opportunities to learn and practice English and sewing in an informal, intimate environment.
They sew, laugh, and grow as a community of friends.
How can you help?
There are many ways you can support STITCH!
They are always in need of cotton and polyester sewing thread to send home with the students for their projects.
They also need plastic zippers of various sizes and lengths which they create zipper pouches and bags from.
Monetary gifts are also appreciated (please make checks payable to Highland Presbyterian Church with STITCH in the memo line.)
Have a sewing machine you no longer need?
STITCH will tune it up and find a student to provide a loving home for it!
