The Cultural Arts Center in New Albany, Indiana presents “Threads of Industry: Labor and Life in New Albany’s Textile Factories”, an exhibit that explores the rise and fall of New Albany, Indiana’s textile and garment industries through historic photographs and artifacts from the Floyd County Library’s collection. From the early days of the New Albany Woolen Mills in the 1860s to the garment factories that bolstered the local economy for much of the 20th century, the exhibit traces how these industries shaped local life, especially for the many women who made up the workforce. It also highlights key moments in local labor history, including a 1936 strike that prompted declaration of martial law, as well as everyday scenes of factory work in the decades that followed.
“Threads of Industry” will be on display September 4th, 2025 through January 31st, 2026 in the Sally Newark Gallery. This exhibit is a part of the Louisville Photo Biennial. Admission is free for all ages, and no registration is required.

Natural Elements:
A Celebration of Fiber and Form In September, Prospect City Hall will transform into a vibrant gallery space as it hosts Natural Elements, an expansive exhibition running from September 27 through December 7. Featuring the work of 21 artists, the show brings together an inspired collection of creations using a variety of media, each grounded in the tactile richness of fiber. From the softness of hand-felted textures to the precise detail of pen and ink, from the warmth of sculpted wood and clay to unexpected material pairings, this exhibition highlights the many ways artists are reimagining what fiber can be. The result is a dynamic and diverse showcase—works that are at once rooted in tradition and pushing boldly into new territory. For more info visit: http://art.prospectky.gov |
