quilters' day out 2017
The 2017 Quilters' Day Out event was held at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre on Saturday February 25th. There were 750 people in attendance, 15 Quilt Guilds, 25 Vendors, and over $1,300 in cash and gift cards was collected for this year's charity, Hildegard House.
Karen Cassidy from Hildegard House opened the event at 9:00 a.m. Although it was a cold and windy day, there was a crowd awaiting the ribbon cutting opening the day's activities.
Our lecturers Nancy Cann, and Pam Shartzer provided information about Quilts of Valor and discussions about quilting techniques respectively. All lectures were well attended. Demonstrations were also conducted throughout the day on the vendor room stage.
This year's featured quilter, Pam Heyna, displayed many of her prize winning quilts including the 2016 Kentucky State Fair Best of Show winner.
Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society was the featured Guild. They displayed their President's Challenge Quilts and raised funds for their organization.
The Viewer's Choice Challenge had 16 entries in 3 categories and winners were awarded ribbons and prizes at the end of the day. Everyone who entered received a special Yo-yo badge that they could wear that day to indicate participation.
Prize baskets were provided by the participating guilds and there were 14 happy winners. A grand prize was given away at the end of the event to a delighted attendee. Various vendors also provided door prizes to lucky quilters.
The coveted Golden Scissors Best Guild Booth Award was once again presented to the Mt. Washington Quilting Bees. Their booth is always so much fun with lots of activities and interaction!
All in all it was a tremendous day filled with fun, friendship and fellowship!
